Palm Springs Police Set Policy For Interacting With Transgender People

Effective July 10, the Palm Springs police department has adopted a policy addressing how employees should interact with transgender people in the field.

“What’s most important is the transgendered person feels like their rights are being respected,” said Police Chief Al Franz, who sits on the department’s LGBT Outreach Committee.

The three-page directive is modeled on one adopted by the Los Angeles Police Department last year.

The move follows the Boston PD’s adoption of antidiscriminatory guidelines last month.
