Andy Marra came out as a trans woman in 2003 and was fortunate to receive an outpouring of love, acceptance and support from family and friends. However, she couldn’t move forward with medical transition — taking hormones or surgery — largely due to her unknown family living far away in Korea. In 2010, they were reunited and Marra was moved by the acceptance and support of her mother.
“To this day I am astounded by my mother’s supernatural intuition despite the language and cultural barriers that still exist between us. I felt a great sense of relief when she helped me come out.”
