Argentina OKs transgender rights: ID changes, sex-change operations and hormone therapy

In 2010, Argentina became the first South American nation to recognize gay marriage, and now, only two years later, they lead the nation in transgender rights, as well. The new “Gender Identity law” passed Senate last week with a vote of 55-0, although many Senators were absent. The law allows transgender individuals to change their name, appearance and I.D. without government approval or physical change, two of the former requirements.
